Rats can transmit diseases like the Bubonic Plague and Typhus.
Rats will enter homes and buildings. They only need a hole the size of a 50 pence coin to gain entry.
Rats are nocturnal.
Rats are good climbers. They can climb walls and use utility lines and fences to travel from structure to
structure.
Outside, Rats will nest in trees, woodpiles, rubbish, and plants.
Inside, high places, like attics, and cavity walls are their preference.
Rats do not burrow in the ground or swim.
Rat droppings are long and cylindrical.
Rats eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, pet food and invertebrates (spiders and worms, for example). They will also eat paper.
Female Rats can each have up to four litters a year, each containing five to eight young. In urban areas where they have no natural predators, the survival rate of the babies is high.

Ratcam is a monitoring video camera that can record high quality video and sound.
We at Ratcam understand the difficulties in finding the source of Rats, and this is where we can help, by taking the guess work out of knowing where the rats are entering your property. Ratcam can find the entry and the exit i.e. (the rat run) thus making it very easy for a pest control to deal with the problem. Pest control may be able to get rid of the rats by baiting but if you don’t find where they are coming in there is a good chance that they will be back costing more money. Ratcams unobtrusive design, flat profile and its small size ensure that we can install in normally inaccessible areas such as Rat Runs, Drains and Wall cavities. Ratcam is left in place for up to 40 hours.
The unique benefits of the Ratcam lay in its motion detection abilities. If the Ratcam detects movement in its field of vision, it can automatically record an image of the scene.

Rats are voracious nibblers and gnawers, promiscuous spreaders of disease and a right nuisance.Rat burrows can cause structural damage and disrupt sewer lines. Rats can chew through wood, glass, wire and lead.
Rats destroy an estimated 20% of the world’s food supply every year directly by feeding and indirectly by contamination.
Rats have weak bladders - any surface they have walked on will have a trail of urine on it. Rats are unhygienic, they spread disease and they spoil food. And in the UK at least, it seems their population is rising.

Many will have heard of Weil's Disease, also known as leptospirosis. But that isn't all. A lot of it is about mechanical [spreading of disease]. They are feeding on foodstuffs that have gone off, with salmonella and listeria and they deposit these bugs as they walk.

You can scrupulously clean everything in your kitchen, but if a rat rummages through some discarded chicken in your next door neighbour's bins and then walks over the clean pans in your cupboards, you could be in trouble.
And rats have the capability to cause electrical fires and other types of damage.
